Genre Underground began over ten years ago as a collective of small press and indie authors to spread the word about the best speculative books that weren't picked up by the big New York publishing houses. It's going through several iterations until the founder, Michael Todd Gallowglas, started doing nerdy, speculative-themed spoken word open mics at conventions. He needed a name for the events. Since Genre Underground wasn't doing anything, He had been lying dormant for some years, he dusted it off and ran with it.
The Genre Underground is has a two-fold mission. At its core, it's a gathering event for lovers of speculative poetry, whether in some corner at a bar or in a party room at a convention. Writers will step in front of the audience and orate their words in celebration of the origins of all speculative writing: the poetic. The next iteration of Genre Underground is this site, which will showcase the best cutting-edge of speculative poetry
Be patient. This is a passion project. The poems are coming. Submissions will open soon.
